FOSTER

Our Greatest need at any time is foster families.  We are a foster based organization so our ability to save hounds lies in the hands of those in the community willing to house these dogs until they can be adopted.  

A great deal of the dogs we are asked to take do not have any experience with living indoors so fosters need to be willing and able to housebreak their foster dogs.  We do our absolute best to place dogs in homes that will be a match to their personalities and energy levels.  We are in constant contact with our fosters and will never leave you feeling like you have no resources to help you along your journey.  If you've had a bad experience in the past with another organization, please don't give up.  Dogs in shelters across America are literally dying waiting for their families to come.  Fostering insures that at least one more dog doesn't face an early death alone in a shelter.

Carolina Coonhound Rescue covers all medical costs and can provide any supplies needed for foster families.  We also provide extensive support for our foster families.  You are never alone on this journey!

Requirements for Fostering with us:
  • Willingness to give your foster dog time to decompress from trauma and/or shelter life.
  • Willingness to give the foster dog basic training needs (housebreaking, crate training, basic manners, etc).  
  • Ability to attend adoption events with your foster dog or make your dog available for adoption events to increase exposure and possibility of adoption.  
  • Ability to keep in contact and update us often with pictures and things your foster dog has learned as well as what they need work on.
  • Timely communications with foster coordinator as well as Medical and Adoption Coordinators when necessary.
  • Ability and/or willingness to help continue any medications or treatments as needed.
  • Live in or near Charleston, SC.
